10 Years of Building a Full-Service Organization

Fuerza Strategy Group began as a side hustle. The plan was simple: go to law school and build websites for political campaigns to help pay the tuition bill.
I was a college student with design skills, a few connections in local politics, and a hunch that campaigns needed cleaner, faster, better tools to reach voters. So I started taking on small projects, designing logos, spinning up Weebly (RIP) sites, and making sure a candidate’s message looked as polished as their platform.
But something unexpected happened.
Clients didn’t just want websites. They wanted help telling their stories. They needed strategy, messaging, branding, and communications support. Bit by bit, that side hustle grew into something bigger.
Ten years later, Fuerza is a full-service public affairs firm working with nonprofits, advocacy organizations, government agencies, and mission-driven brands. We’ve expanded beyond campaign season into year-round impact (it wasn’t easy, but we made it).
Starting with Nothing But Belief
There was no capital, no clients, no real roadmap. Just a name — Fuerza, Spanish for “strength”, paying tribute to my grandmother who immigrated to America from Puerto Rico and worked in the garment industry in New Jersey.
The main driver was a thought that communications could be sharper, smarter, and more strategic, even for local campaigns. What if we paired creative storytelling with rigorous thinking? We could help mission-driven organizations do more than just make noise. We could help them move people.
That belief was my fuel.
So I built decks between classes. Took meetings between shifts. Worked from libraries, dorm lounges, and any Wi-Fi I could find.
The hustle wasn’t glamorous. But it was real. And it worked.

Growing Up — And Growing the Work
In those early years, we did everything — literally — branding, design, office setup, nonprofit launches, social media, op-eds, strategy docs, and more. Every project taught me something. Every client trusted us with something valuable.
Eventually, the projects got bigger. So did the impact. And the expectations.
Fuerza matured — shifting from “one smart kid with an Adobe account” to a multidisciplinary team of strategists, designers, and communicators. We started working with municipalities, state agencies, national organizations, and purpose-led brands.
We earned the right to be in the room.
What Hasn’t Changed
The pace is faster. The stakes are higher. The team is stronger.
But what hasn’t changed is our core.
We still believe in clarity over jargon. In work that’s felt, not just seen. In building momentum, not just marketing materials.
We’re not here to churn out campaigns. We’re here to help our clients lead with purpose, speak with power, and act with impact.

10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 Years

- Clarity is your most underrated asset.
- Great strategy starts with deep listening.
- Hire people who make you better — not just busier.
- Your brand isn’t what you say — it’s what they remember.
- Relationships drive results. Always.
- You don’t need to be everything to everyone (still working on this a little).
- Creativity needs deadlines.
- Inspiration comes from unexpected and unknown places, especially travel.
- Never lose sight of why you started.
What’s Next
The next 10 years will look different. They have to. The world is evolving, and so are we.
We’re growing our creative studio. Launching new ventures. Investing in voices, visuals, and visions that inspire action.
But no matter how we evolve, Fuerza will always be rooted in the idea that started it all: smart strategy and great storytelling can change everything.
Thanks for being part of the journey. Whether you’ve been here since the dorm days or just joined the ride, your support means everything.
Here’s to what’s next.
